Eichardt's II
There is a simpatico relationship with the neighbours. Along Marine Parade the historic facade of Eichardts Private Hotel is flat, square ended and rectangular in profile. The new building is also flat faced, square ended and rectangular in profile. As a set of two they neatly square off the Mall to Church street block. One has neo classical texture, the other has a contemporary texture. The Church street facade turns the stone around the corner and then the material changes to steel and steps up in height to make a gesture to its neighbour. This is an important addition to Queenstowns townscape and the design demonstrates the with sensitivity old and new can be happy bedfellows.
